"My Painting is bright, bold and vital. An expression of my observations, personal experiences and emotions.
I spend hours working in sketchbooks, which I use to record images that inspire me from everyday life but also exploring my internal world through 'inner journeys'. It is here that I process ideas into paintings.
My key interest is the concise expressive use of line, colour and symbols to communicate ideas and feelings."
Born in London, I graduated with a B A (Hon's) Degree in Graphic Design from 'Middlesex Polytechnic'.
While working for 'Conran Design Group' in Hong Kong, I held my first solo art exhibition in 1988. Hong Kong became my home and South East Asia my inspiration for 11years thereafter. There, I worked extensively as an artist, university lecturer and creative professional.
My professional challenges of cross cultural communication in art and design led me to explore the evolution of Chinese calligraphy and symbolism as a way of bridging cultures. This culminated in a major exhibition of my work in Tokyo, 1994. Titled 'female', this exhibition integrated the essence of symbolic language and pictograms into art. I had a number of solo exhibitions in London, Birmingham and Hong Kong.
Later, while working as a University Lecturer, I completed a Masters Degree specifically on the topic of cross cultural art and communication. In 1996 I was elected a fellow of the 'Chartered Society of Designers' in London by virtue of professional standing and distinction of work.
Since my return to the UK and daughter's birth in 1999 my work focused on art in the community. In London 2002 my work was selected to be part of an exhibition of women artists about female identity. I continue to be motivated by all that is female more recently with motherhood. I received a 'Kings Fund' award in 2003 for 'The Mother and Child Art Project', a book design explaining the process is held at the 'Victoria and Albert Museum'.
I consider myself a bridge using creativity to bridge enterprise, business, and the visual arts.I am a member of 'CAN' (Community Action Network) and a fellow of the Kings Fund and Unltd.
Currently I run 'Kat studio' developing ideas through a combination of my own art practice and a diverse range of commissions and creative services.
The Skylark Gallery at the OXO Tower has a permanent display showing a variety of my work throughout the year.
